YARRA Ranges Council will spend $1.5million on fire preparations this season.
Included in that budget will be the inspection of about 40,000 properties, issuing of 1800 fire prevention notices to landowners, slashing of 1500 kilometres of roadside and fire preparation for council reserves.
The council’s Action Plan for preparedness for the coming fire season includes the Safety Expo on 14 November at Lillydale Lake, installing and maintaining new emergency vehicle access tracks and water tanks for the CFA, working with the CFA to identify neighbourhood Safer Places and additional staff to act as municipal fire prevention officers.
