IT’S easy to forget how important it is to have a property clearly numbered.
Having a house number clearly visible from the road can be a matter of life and death in an emergency.
Searching for a house can delay help arriving. Yarra Ranges Council’s Streets and Roads Local Law 2005 requires all properties to have their number clearly displayed and visible from the road.
It is recommended that number be reflective and at least 75 millimetres high.
Some other helpful tips in the event of an emergency include:
•If possible, send an adult to the road to get the attention of and direct emergency services;
•If it’s night time, turn on all lights and keep a torch handy to gain the attention of emergency services; and
•Lock away dogs, keep children away and leave your front door open – if safe – to help emergency services attend to the incident without delay.
