SEVILLE’s Blues boys won a nail-biting division two reserves grand final on Saturday, winning the YVMDFL 2010 flag by less than a goal.
Most of the team toasted the victory in true form, but full forward Ron Morison had to be content with celebrating from his hospital bed. The forward kicked two goals and was then rushed to hospital where doctors removed his appendix on Sunday.
On Monday both the club president and coach were hoarse from celebrating the win. They were both elated that the club had broken its premiership drought.
President Sole Cecere said the Blues had led most of the day before Yarra Glen mounted a come-back.
“It was anyone’s game right up until the end, we’re talking about one kick from the opposition and we could have lost it,” he said.
Blues coach Lance Holly described the win as “sensational”.
“The boys played really well and we probably didn’t expect to win but we did,” he said.
Mr Holly said there had been a lot of injuries throughout the year, and putting together a grand final team was hard work.
But he reckons the boys will be back to get three out of three next season.
Scores: Seville 9.4 (58) d Yarra Glen 8.5 (53).
