Mt Evelyn sit pretty on top of ladder

By Carli Mitchell
IN a top-of-the-table clash, reigning premiers Mount Evelyn continued its undefeated 2010 season, defeating Warburton Millgrove 55–22.
With their finals hopes diminishing, Warburton need to prepare itself for the clash with Monbulk. Mount Evelyn should continue on its merry way, with a final clash of the season against Olinda Ferny Creek.
Healesville and Monbulk drew 20-all in what would most likely be their most important match of the season. From the very beginning, the teams couldn’t be separated, with the final scores reflecting how close they are in skill.
Woori Yallock were missing a number of players, and unfortunately suffered a 100-6 loss at the hands of Upwey Tecoma. From the get-go, everything was going right for the visiting team and this win will only boost confidence as it faces Wandin next week.
Continuing to play great netball, Wandin travelled to Olinda Ferny Creek at the weekend, and the visiting team put in yet another good performance to cement its spot in the top five, winning 76–14. Wandin was simply far too strong.
Division Two A Grade
Playing Yarra Junction at home at the weekend, Seville finished the 2010 season on a high – defeating the home side 49–24.
Playing Yea in the first round of finals, Seville will be entering its encounter with confidence. Yarra Junction will need to play much better than it did against Seville if it wishes to defeat Emerald.
Thornton Eildon played Powelltown at home on the weekend in a one-sided affair.
Powelltown showed just why it is holding top spot, with a dominating display for four quarters. The final score read 72-17. Powelltown will now have the week off and go into the semi finals with confidence.
Improving after each week and issuing a challenge to the top five sides, Emerald registered another win for the season, this time over the much-improved Belgrave, defeating the home side 77-18. Nothing could go wrong for Emerald, who have proven to be this season’s most-improved and imposing side.
Yea finished the season with a great win over Kinglake to cement third spot coming into finals. The girls from Yea moved the ball down the court quickly and freely, not giving Kinglake much of a chance and winning 64-25. Yea play Seville in this weekend’s qualifying final in what should be an exciting match. Winning the previous week against Kinglake, Alexandra enjoyed another win, this time defeating Yarra Glen 33–23. With both teams missing the finals, Alexandra did well to finish the season with the four points and bragging rights.
