THE next generation of artists exhibited their work at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre in Warburton last week.
Students studying photography and air-brushing as a part of their Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) were given the chance to show off their work for the first time in public.
The students are all aged between 15 and 20 years old and studying at either the Redwood or Cerini Centres in Warburton, through the Upper Yarra Community House.
Lead tutor Jodie Kinsmore said the works were the beginning of their learning, with no theme but more an expression of who they are.
“Seeing the work they have produced so far has been fantastic,” she said.
“They are so creative and talented.”
Josh Cumberland said he spent several sessions working on his air-brushed picture of Miles Davis.
“We practiced these techniques of using the brush over and over,” he said.
“And then we learnt how to layer, starting with a grey base, working the outlines in black, and then adding some white at the end to highlight the picture.”
Caragh Delpol said she was scribbling since she was three.
Now 18, she enjoys sketching, drawing and using watercolours.
“This is the first piece I’ve ever sold in an exhibition,” she said, referring to three hand-drawn pictures displayed in a vertical frame.
“It feels really weird to have my pictures on a wall – usually I only show my work to people I know.”
