GEORGIE Walsh hadn’t picked up a camera in 20 years, but the digital era inspired her to start snapping again.
Ms Walsh bought a $99 Canon camera from the Lilydale Post Office two and a half years ago, and began taking photos. “I’ve lived here nearly 23 years, and didn’t have a camera to record these amazing moments and capture time,” she said.
The Warburton resident started a daily diary, capturing those moments of exact beauty in the valley. “I don’t use any fancy techniques or distortions, it’s just bouncing the light at the time,” she said.
Her exhibition called Blessings, currently at the Yarra Junction Library, shows photos taken from September 2008 to September 2009. “It was the driest spring, the hottest summer, the worst bushfire, the shortest autumn, the coldest winter, and the wettest spring,” she said.
Ms Walsh will also be conducting a workshop on making the most of a digital camera and creating wonderful memories. “I just want to give people that instinctual vision to take pictures. There are days when the lighting is so good that you can’t wait,” she said. “You have to work with nature and start over with each season.”
The free workshop will be held at the Yarra Junction Library this Saturday 19 June at 10am, and bookings are essential on 5967 1588.
