GRASSROOTS football fans are being urged to help kick goals for their clubs as part of this year’s Army Challenge Award.
The award celebrates on-field displays of courage, initiative and team work. Each week local football teams across the country will select a player who has demonstrated the best examples of these three qualities. Footy fans can also support their club by voting or kicking goals for their favourite players at www.defencejobs. gov.au/armyaward.
Emerald and Mount Evelyn have been named as two of the clubs involved in the scheme this year. Award ambassador and former North Melbourne player Glenn Archer said the focus of the competition this year was rewarding and recognising the support communities give to their local footy clubs.
“It a great award for local players and clubs,” he said.
At the end of the season, players in each state who have accumulated the most points by demonstrating courage, initiative and teamwork will win a ‘footy weekend’ in Melbourne.
The prize also includes a ‘kick-off’ with Glenn Archer and will also receive the Army Challenge Award medallion.
Also the club in each state who has been able to get their supporters to ‘kick’ the most amount of points or in this case votes will win $5000 to spend on sporting equipment. Those who vote will also go into the running for weekly prizes including footballs and sporting goods gift vouchers.
Teams aim for rewards
