Warburton Bowls Club Results

A hectic week of bowls for the Burras finished with mixed results.

The weekend started well following a wonderful effort from Adam Donohue and Rod ‘Bear’

McKail in the Eastern Ranges Bowls Region Men’s Pairs saw them winning their semi-final on

Friday evening at Mitcham. They will now play in the final with details to be confirmed.

The Weekend Warburton 1 side played a double-header over the weekend. On Saturday

they visited Fitzroy Victoria 1 and won two rinks before going down overall 79 shots to 66.

Rink scores were as follows: A. Donohue 16/ 14; S. Lord 25/ 12; P. Caneva 16/ 23 and C.

Neale 9/ 30.

They followed this up on Sunday at home in hot conditions against Whittlesea 2. Whittlesea

started extremely well and held off a determined Burras side to win by 9 shots, 62 to 71.

A disappointing loss for the Burras!

Rink scores were as follows: A. Donohue 23/ 16; S. Lord 10/ 20; P. Caneva 20/ 11 and C.

Neale 9/ 24.

They look forward to regrouping against Diamond Creek 1 away this week to keep their

finals hopes alive.

The Warburton 2 side played Croydon 4 at home and recorded a fabulous overall victory,

102 shots to 59. The improvement shown by our beginning players is pleasing to see. They

hope to continue the winning form this week away against Ringwood 3.

Rink scores were R. Zunneberg 27/ 9; G. Lewis 37/ 10; G. Wynd 15/ 22 and S. Darwall 23/ 18.

The mid-week Warburton 1 side travelled to Eastwood Golf 1 last Tuesday and struggled to

adapt to their slow and challenging grass green. All rinks went down in a disappointing loss,

43 shots to 69.

Rink scores were S. Lord 14/ 26; R. McKail 13/ 19 and G. Walsh 16/ 24. They play Yarra Glen

1 away this week in what looms as another challenging game.

The Wednesday Night Barefoot Bowls Triples Competition continued last Wednesday in

cooler conditions. All games were played with great enthusiasm.

Neil Jorgensen (Burra Boys) started the evening well by receiving the prize for the first player

to touch the jack.

Match results were as follows: Burra Boys 17 d G Force 11; Pensioners 25 d Moonshiners 15;

Can’t Remember 20 d Bolters 10; Thomos 16 d Giddy Gout 10; Sheep Assist 12 d Nutters 8

and Wessie Wonders 21 d Bowls to the Walls 7.

New Players, including beginners and experienced, are always welcome to join our small but

progressive club. Social Bowls continues to be played every Monday from 12 midday. All

welcome!
