Poll values your opinion

THE YARRA Glen Values and Visions project will take another step forward next week with the release of a community survey.
The survey, which will feature a range of questions asking people to select and prioritise actions in the community, will be released on Wednesday, 1 February.
Residents will have just two weeks until Wednesday, 15 January, to complete the survey before the data is collated for a report to be released in April.
Values and Visions project coordinator, Hannah Sky, said while hard copies of the survey would be delivered to households, the preference was for residents to complete the survey online.
“Hard copies of the survey will be mailed out to all households in the 3775 postcode area, which includes Yarra Glen, Christmas Hills, Tarrawarra, Dixons Creek and Steels Creek,” she said.
“However, we really want to encourage people to complete the survey online. The data from hard-copy surveys will have to be collated by volunteers, and that’s a lot of volunteer hours.”
Ms Sky said residents unable to access the survey online at home or work would be able to do so at the Yarra Glen Primary School and at businesses in town.
“We are running a competition at the primary school to see which student can get the most people to complete the survey online,” she said.
“Residents can also access the online survey at SVS Management Services and at Hoogies, both on Bell Street in Yarra Glen, during normal business hours.”
Ms Sky said residents wishing to complete the survey online could log on to www.yarraglen.com and follow the links.
“The survey includes questions about the values of the community. It asks people what they want to happen in and around their community and to prioritise actions,” she said.
“The actions will cover things that have long been mooted in the district, including short and long-term projects. Some things are very specific, like does Yarra Glen need a swimming pool?”
Ms Sky said the survey also features questions about what sort of township group the community would like, and a section on the proposed supermarket development.
“The questions have been put together and agreed upon by a group of people who are on both sides of the fence on the supermarket development,” she said.
Ms Sky said completed hard copies of the survey could be dropped off at the Yarra Glen post office, news agency and primary school.
