ENTRIES are open for the Yarra Glen Easter Art Show.
The show will be held in the beautiful setting of Alowyn Gardens over the four-day Easter long-weekend.
Show co-ordinator and local artist Morgan Calder said Alowyn was the perfect new home for the art show.
“It’s the botanical gardens of the Yarra Valley,” Ms. Calder said.
“It’s inspirational and divine … probably the most complementary location I can think of for an art show.”
The show, now in its eighth year, has become an Easter institution in the valley with phenomenal support from both artists and audiences.
Alowyn Gardens is itself a work of art – the artists, owners John and Pru Van de Linde.
Mr and Mrs Van de Linde are every bit as enthusiastic as Ms Calder about the partnership of art and Alowyn.
“The relationship between art and our garden we feel will be a strong one and both aspects will complement each other,” Ms Van de Linde said.
The garden is designed along strong symmetrical lines that become blurred by the softness of the spaces and the grace of the trees. A silver birch forest of 500 trees, an edible garden with fruit trees, a formal parterre garden built along 17th century principles, a 100 metre long wisteria and rose covered arbour and a sunken rose garden are among the garden’s many features.
A large marquee adjacent to the Maple Courtyard will provide gallery space for the more than 200 art works.
“We are looking forward to seeing how local artists depict and interpret the beautiful Yarra Ranges as well as many other exciting works, including sculptural and unframed works which will also be on display,” Ms Van de Linde said.
Entries for the art show close on 19 March. Visit www.yarraglenartshow.com.au for details. For further information on Alowyn, visit www.alowyngardens.com.au .
