Stormy end to season

By Keith Thompson,
ALMOST every one of the final day of home-and-away matches in the Yarra Valley Cricket Association’s 2009-20 season was washed out by the storms that crossed the Yarra Valley on Saturday afternoon.
In the D. J. Strachan Shield Healesville made 9/222 at the end of its 40 overs with Nick Foster just short of a fine century with 95 and Darren Edwards 43 not out.
Michael Walker took 3/69. In reply Warburton was 0/3 when play was called off.
Hoddles Creek was making a great fist of its big chase of Seville’s 7/357 with 4/171 in the book when rain stopped play. Brenton Derix made 77, W. Weir 50 and Craig Atkins took 2/39.
Seville’s 7/357 was made up from John Pignataro’s 118, Andrew Kay’s 62 and Garth Woodford’s 69 not out while Jef Crew took 4/74.
Mount Evelyn had a good score in the making against top side Wandin when rain intervened at 6/206. Andrew Giblin made 77 while Mick Darvell and Stephen Kogelman both clocked up 31 runs. Jason Kennedy took 3/55 and Lee Selkrig 2/32.
Yarra Junction declared at 5/198. Daniel Lever made 58 and Ed Buckley 51, with L. Lambert taking 2/58. It drew with Coldstream (5/49). Lever took 3/23 in addition to his half century.
Gruyere District had a score of 8/233 at the end of its 40 overs. Matt Tilney made 53 and Aaron Violi 42.
Andrew Sharp took 4/52 for Woori Yallock, which did not get a chance to bat.
The D. J. Strachan Shield semi-finals were due to start yesterday, Monday 8 March, and continue on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 March with Wandin playing Seville at Wandin Cricket Ground and Warburton-Millgrove meeting Mount Evelyn at Warburton.
The R. A. Finger Trophy semis will be Seville v Yarra Junction at Seville and Healesville v Woori Yallock at Healesville’s Queens Park.
All other grades begin their semis on Saturday 13 March and continue the next day.
