THE fight for the top four in the Ferntree Gully District Cricket Association competition tightened in round 11 of the Know Tavern Cup at the weekend with ladder leaders Ferntree Gully losing to Upwey and dropping to third and Upwey and Upper Gully holding down the top two spots.
Upwey chased down Ferntree Gully’s 174 set last week to post 6/201. Matt Mulcahy led the way with 66, supported by Mick Hewitt (40 n.o.) and Brenton Hurst (39). Luke Bowyer had the best bowling return for the Blues with three wickets.
Both teams will look to finish the year with a win so they can host a game in the first week of finals
Johnson Park amassed 9/444, having passed the Saints without loss last week.
Openers Peter Dunlop (128) and Adam Burgess (136) caused all sorts of pain for St Johns Tecoma until the new ball after tea gave the bowlers a chance. Corey Walters took 5/92 in what was a long hard slog. Johnson Park now sits a game clear in fourth spot.
Eildon Park cruised to a win over Lysterfield losing only three wickets as Ben Morris scored a century and Cameron Cosstick made 62.
Knox Gardens enjoyed its third win of the year with a similar result over Rowville. The Falcons enjoyed a seven-wicket victory on the back of 145 by Wayne McInerney.
Despite their win and regardless of results next week, Knox Gardens, Lysterfield and St Johns Tecoma will all play in the Decoite Shield next season
Upper Ferntree Gully just scraped home against Monbulk with Jay Colee enjoying the return to the log cabin. Next week both teams will play games that will help shape the order of the final four.
The Basin dismissed Belgrave six runs shy of a victory that would have seen the Magpies in the mix for potential finals action. The Huntsmen snared the six points thanks to a strong performance by Matt Heskes with 5/35.
In Decoite Shield Knoxfield gained outright points over Auravale, which should see them move into second place. Footballers remains a game clear on top having routed Knox for 113 in pursuit of their 391 runs. South Belgrave enjoyed a win over Mountain Gate.
