BRODY Goding has clinched the Rolls Royce of traineeships.
Literally!
The 22-year-old Healesville aerospace engineering student will leave Healesville on 3 March to take up an internship with Rolls Royce in Dahlewitz, Germany.
The six-month internship is in the maintenance and repair of commercial aircraft engines and he will be working with the world’s best.
Brody has been studying aerospace engineering at RMIT for the past four years and in December applied for the internship.
There was very little time to get nervous about the prospect.
“I did a phone interview with Rolls Royce in December last year and pretty much got it on the spot at the interview,” Brody said.
He is aware there’s a certain kudos in being picked by ‘RR’ – even among those who have no knowledge of the international world of aircraft engineering, Rolls Royce is synonymous with world’s best practice.
“It’s a great opportunity,” said Brody, whose natural talent for maths teamed with a life-long interest in design and aircraft and space applications set him on the path to a career in aerospace engineering.
Brody is not too fazed either at the suggestion he is taking on a job with awesome responsibilities, such as making sure aeroplane engines work.
“I don’t expect I’ll be doing anything too serious at the beginning,” he said.
“I expect there will be lots of hands-on and computer modelling involved and I will have a lot of people above me who know what they’re doing.”
In terms of settling into another culture, Brody said that was no problem.
He spent six months in 2007 working in Sweden as part of his course.
In any language, it’s a Rolls Royce experience and one Brody is adamant he will be making the most of as he works towards his chosen career.
