SEVILLE captain Dean Troyahn led from the front with 4/25 when Mt Evelyn hosted Seville in round two of the Yarra Valley Cricket Association on Saturday, a one-Day series of matches in the D J STRACHAN Shield.
It was played at Morrisson Reserve while the Seville ground had some work carried out.
Mt Evelyn was 147 all out (S. Kogelman 51, L. Jones 24) with young spinner Stephen Morgan assisted his captain with 2/20.
Its bats let Seville down early with the first three batsmen failing to score. The tail wagged, but not enough and the innings ended at 126 (Adam Burns 36, Andrew DiPietro 26 n/o). Kane Jones grabbed 5/22. Chris Anderson and Paul Miutescu both took two wickets in a handy win for the home side.
Gruyere batted first in its clash with Healesville and reached 8/108 in its 40 overs (A. Waxiel 30, A. Vassalo 33) with steady bowling performances from Darren Edwards (4/34) and Daniel Rogers (3/19). But Healesville’s batting was not up to the challenge and with fine bowling from Matt Tilney (5/16) and Aaron Violi (4/27), was all out for just 77.
Hoddles Creek could manage only a low 78 against Warburton/Millgrove as Cam Darwell used his spin to snare 6/18. Michael Batten (23) put up some resistance. Warb/Millgrove chalked up 9/138cc with Brent Summers reaching 60 not out.
In the R A Finger Trophy Coldstream (6/160) was at home against Healesville (148) with Tom McCulloch 43 not out for Coldstream. C. Burridge took 2/29 and R. Haub 2/36.
Healesville’s Richard Maile notched up 56 runs, while McCulloch completed a good day with bowling figures of 5/30.
Warburton Millgrove were all out for 76 against Yarra Junction, with Ben Hanson the backbone of the innings with 49. K. Colling took 4/5 for Yarra Junction. When the visitors manned the crease they mauled the Warburton attack to lose only one wicket for 253 runs with D. Robertson on 162 not out and Cameron Spaulding still at the crease on 51.
Seville (4/158) defeated Mt Evelyn (117) with an outstanding 78 not out from Craig Aitkins and 21-run hauls from Matt Walker and Stu Sculthorpe.
Ian Hawkey made 41 for Mt Evelyn and Bruce Smith chalked up 37. Luke Clarke took 5/27 and Paul Dicello claimed 3/20.
Woori Yallock reached 9/262 with help from Julian Smith (68) and A. Tazziman (72) to defeat Wandin (9/141). J. Crowther made 47 runs for Wandin and Dallas Spencer took 4/20.
In the C Grade 1 competition Powelltown at home reached 3/164. Brendan Green finished 82 runs, Jason White was 50 not out and Nick Lawlor took 2/28 to defeat Hoddles Creek (4/122).
Marysville (9/108) was all out from 28.4 overs in the clash with Kinglake (9/177). R. Hodgins made 25, J. Ackermann was 38 not out and James Morgan claimed 3/24. John McKenry made 39 runs, David Shaw 33 and James Morgan 27. Luke Ronalds took 3/34, A. Clark 2/16 and J. Hodgins sen 2/21.
Launching Place (8/115) beat Gruyere District (9/110).
