Phil Johnson In His Garden.

Irrepressibly enthusiastic award-winning designer Phil Johnson will host a tour of his own exciting Olinda garden and explain his design objectives and philosophies.
The day is a special Australian Open Gardens event.
Phil Johnson specialises in the establishment of environmentally sustainable billabongs and water features replenished by storm water, within naturalistic landscapes where rock is used to spectacular effect.
There are many additional environmental and aesthetic aspects to this garden including on-site sewage and grey water treatment, bushfire prevention strategies and an outdoor theatre and hot springs.

Lonsdale Park – Launching Place

INTIMACY and a sense of space from vistas are nicely balanced in this well-designed cool-climate garden. Features include foliage colour, interesting trees and shrubs including ginkgo, liriodendron, taxodiums and magnolias, and a young woodland, orchard, vegetables and herbs.

Giverney – Toolangi

THE LARGE pond strewn with water lilies that inspired the garden’s name is the centrepiece of this restful, cool-climate garden, which is flanked by tall native trees. Features weeping maples, rhododendrons, azaleas, clematis, irises and tulips. Enjoy a bush-walk around the lake and the kiwi fruit orchard.

THIS IS the garden of a knowledgeable and dedicated plantswoman. Carefully designed, it allows plants the space to realise their potential. Mature trees shade charming intimate areas including a secret garden. Younger but established rare and unusual trees and shrubs including halesia, kalmia, alniphyllum, zenobia and physocarpus are a feature, as are the espaliered apple trees.

Mast Gully Gardens – Upwey

AN impressive waterfall tumbles over rocks into a lily pond at the entrance to this well-landscaped garden. Features extensive flowering shrubs and trees as well as conifers. Golden elms underplanted with hydrangeas and a creek lined with hydrangeas and tree ferns are features.
