A PARAMEDIC service established for workers on the Sugarloaf Pipeline project will act as back-up to existing emergency services along the Melba Highway.
Sugarloaf Pipeline Alliance spokeswoman Denise Hurley said the service supplied by Life Aid was based at Glenburn and linked in to the public ambulance despatch system.
The service could prove critical if any serious accidents occurred along the Melba Highway between Yarra Glen and Yea, Ms Hurley said.
“It may be called upon by dispatch if the nearest public ambulance is unable to attend or our service can get there quicker and help save lives. It also has four-wheel-drive capability to access more difficult terrain,” she said.
The service will move to Yea once the pipe laying is completed.
