Golfers tee-off for rebuild

By Kath Gannaway
MARYSVILLE golfers were looking forward to playing again as a team at Sandhurst today (Tuesday). Members, as a group for the first time since Black Saturday, were scheduled to tee off at Sandhurst Club with golfers from all round Victoria in the inaugural Marysville Sandhurst Challenge.
The event will raise funds to assist in the rebuilding of the Marysville Golf Club.
Marysville captain Dr Nick Jans said some of the funds would be used to help establish the Liesfield Junior Golf Trust, named after brothers James and Mathew Liesfield, junior club members who perished in the fires.
Mr Jans said the trust had been established to develop and support junior golfers in the Marysville community, in the extended Murrindindi Shire and ultimately across Australia.
Plans for the day included a simply ceremony prior to the start of the challenge with the ringing of the ‘captain’s bell’ for a minute’s silence before the commencement of the game at 12.30pm.
A cavalcade of 50 golf carts sporting yellow ribbons was also planned.
