THE CFA declared fire danger period ends at 1am on Monday 20 April – and the Shire of Yarra Ranges’ regulations again take effect.
The shire is urging residents to observe burning off rules that apply to their properties.
Yarra Ranges Mayor Len Cox said the shire’s Open Air Burning Local Law would take effect once the danger period was lifted, and that residents living in rural and residential bushland areas should be aware of burning off restrictions that may apply. “Residents are reminded that burning off is permitted for fuel reduction purposes only in residential bushland and rural areas, and is prohibited in urban areas without a permit,” Cr Cox said.
“Burning off for fuel reduction purposes is not permitted on Sundays, smog alert days and total fire ban days throughout the shire.”
Cr Cox said residents unsure about burning off restrictions that apply to their properties should contact the shire on 1300 368 333 or visit www.yarra ranges.vic.gov.au for more information.
“The shire has also produced a new booklet that details its Open Air Burning Local Law with information on restrictions for residential bushland, rural and urban areas of the shire,” Cr Cox said.
“The booklet also includes handy information to assist residents in burning smarter and cleaner.”
Copies of the shire’s new booklet are available at the shire’s community links.
