IT’S full steam ahead for work on the latest edition to the Upper Yarra Museum.
The Upper Yarra Museum, formerly the Yarra Junction Railway Station, now has its first train carriage in more than 40 years. The ZD 494 van arrived at the museum on Monday 23 March, on the back of a flatbed truck.
Upper Yarra Valley Historical Society vice president Mick Stanic said it had been a long search for the carriage.
“The museum is an old train station, so we always knew that it’d be spectacular to see a train or carriage here again,” Mr Stanic said. “We also brought it in because a lot of people, who remember the trains and the railway, would say it was sad that they disappeared and for those who never knew it was there.”
The historic society plans to furnish the carriage with historical material on the railway system in the Yarra Valley, dating back to the early 1900s.
The Museum and the Upper Yarra Historical Society are located off Main Road, Yarra Junction.
