School on high after splashing success

HEALESVILLE High School made a splash at the recent Yarra Valley District swimming carnival.
Students from Healesville High came away with five overall age group champions and Georgia Murty, in the 14-year-old age group, won the Chris Honeycombe Memorial Medal for her performance in the medley.
Year 9 student Georgia Murty, who has been swimming regularly for the past seven years, said she had been putting in extra work to hopefully perform well at the state competitions.
“I swim twice a week. I might make it three times a week coming up to the states because I want to keep winning,” Georgia said.
Although Healesville High School shares their grounds with The Jack Hort Memorial pool, however, Healesville High sport co-ordinator Christine Dell said students swim in their own time.
Ms Dell said she was proud of the student’s achievements at the Yarra Valley District swimming carnival and the Eastern Zone Swimming Championships held on Monday 23 March.
“They’re a great bunch of kids because they get in there, have a go and support each other. It didn’t matter who the student was or what they were coming in the race — the others got behind them and cheered them on,” Ms Dell said.
Two students will be going onto the state competition after the Eastern Zone competition.
Jamie Curtis will be swimming breast stroke in the 16 to 20-year-old category and Tamara Groves will be competing in the breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke at the state competition on Thursday 2 April.
