Youth Week to take them higher

By Kath Gannaway
YARRA Ranges’ young people can reach new heights as they celebrate National Youth Week this year.
The shire’s Youth Services are hosting the Elevation festival to be held at Lilydale Skate Park on Saturday April 4.
The festival will feature a skate and BMX competition, a free rock climbing wall, a large youth market and of course lots of music supplied by aspiring young bands and a drum and percussion group.
Yarra Ranges Councillor Chris Templer said the Elevation Festival would be a great day out for people of all ages.
“National Youth Week is about celebrating young people and their achievements and what better way to do this than by holding a festival,” Cr Templer said. “One of the highlights will be the PATS and Traction mental health groups’ photography exhibition, which has been produced to promote awareness of mental health issues within the community.”
Another festival highlight will be the youth market where young people are encouraged to hold a stall and sell their own crafts or artworks.
“Holding a stall at the craft market is a fantastic opportunity for young people to show the community what they can do and earn some extra money at the same time,” Cr Templer said.
Stalls at the craft market cost $5 and tables will be supplied. Bookings can be made by contacting Youth Services.
The Elevation festival will run from 11am to 4pm and entry is free. All Youth Services events are drug, alcohol and smoke free.
