RICK and Judy Morgan are opening the doors of their Wattleseed Cafe/Restaurant in Healesville on Monday for a Grand Charity Bash to support local fire brigades.
The event will see Healesville’s premier auctioneer, David Brown, come out of retirement to bang the gavel on a pile of donated goods. There will be live entertainment, free finger food and drinks at bar prices.
Mr Morgan said every cent spent on the night would go to local brigades as a gesture of support for the magnificent effort the volunteers had put in over the past month. Like so many other businesses, the Wattleseed had been doing it tough through February, said Mr Morgan but he, Judy and their staff wanted to made a contribution.
Having also been involved in three major fires and having lost a restaurant in the hills, he had a very real appreciation of the firefighters’ efforts.
“This is just a little way of throwing some extra money into the local brigade coffers,” he said.
Entry is by paper note and there would be plenty of opportunity to spend up big at the auction.
With Healesville businesses feeling the pinch, Mr Morgan has called on his out-of-town suppliers and other contacts for support and said they had responded magnificently. If anyone has new goods (or genuine antiques) or a service they would like to donate, contact Rick or Judy at the Wattleseed on 5962 3327.
The GCB fundraiser is on Monday, 16 March starting at 6.30pm. The Wattleseed is on the corner of Maroondah Highway and Church Street.
While booking is not required a phone call to say “we’ll be there” would be helpful for catering purposes.
