THE Tank is coming to the Yarra Valley.
Described as the Tasmanian Dimboola and hailed by author Richard Flanagan as “one of the best and most important pieces of theatre Tasmania has yet produced”, The Tank is set to add Yarra Valley audiences to it’s growing fan base.
Shire of Yarra Ranges Regional Arts Coordinator Jenny Davies says The Tank will both entertain and lift spirits.
“It’s comedy with a bit of a message, which is particularly relevant right now,” she said. The Tank is a heart-wrenching tale of drought-stricken battlers in a tidy country town.
It’s about taking responsibility in tough times, finding new ways to tackle old problems, and it’s about the small steps the individual can take in the face of the world’s problems.
The music, written by Mick Thomas of Weddings, Parties Anything fame, is a combination of alt-bluegrass and musical comedy mayhem.
Directed by Tania Bosak (Rektango), The Tank brings together Gary Adams (The Clip Clop Club) as Harold, Luke Elliot (Noise) as his father, Roy, and Anthea Davis in the pivotal role of Dora.
From sold-out seasons in Tasmania and tours of Western Australia and Victoria, including playing the National Folk Festival in Canberra and the Port Fairy Folk Festival, the 2009 tour of regional Victoria will see two performances in the Yarra Valley, Healesville on 14 March and Warburton on 21 March.
