FINE conditions, free-running fairways and a course rating of 67 led to some splendid golf at Emerald on the weekend.
This contributed to low scoring in the first of three par rounds of the Maurie Murphy Summer Cup.
Emerald’s own Welshman Dave “Taf” Thomas shot a staggering +9 off a handicap of 22 to lead the field and take out C-grade honours.
Ryan Hocking (11) held on to a great first nine for +6 and A-grade. Peter Jones also put together a fine round of +6 to win B-grade and to be just off the pace.
Dave Hunt, Brian McCoy and Greg Horrocks just trail with +5s.
Nearest-the-pin winners were Ken Hill (4th), Bob Moulday (7th), Dave Hunt (12th) and Ross Martin (13th).
Peter Jones took the pro-pin on the 18th while Café Marte winners for this week were Geoff Isherwood (17th) and Steve Town (10th).
Next week sees the second par round of the Summer Cup.
