HOW many flags Wesburn Junior Football Club will win this season is anybody’s guess.
But there’s one thing every player, home and away, can bank on when footy kicks off for 2009, and that’s a steaming hot shower after the game.
Warburton Community Bank board member, and local footballer, Rodney Woods was a welcome sight last week as the WJFC committee fronted up for their first meeting of the season.
He brought with him his cheque book!
The club was successful in a grant application for $3000 to install new hot water services in the club rooms and according to club president Paul Brock, it is a much-needed improvement for the players and a real boost for all the hard-working volunteers.
“It takes a lot of sausage sizzles and raffles to raise that sort of money and we are very grateful to the Warburton Community Bank for their generosity,” he said.
“Our old hot water services were well past their use by date, and not only are the new ones more reliable, but they are more economical, so the benefit will continue to flow.”
Mr Woods said it was a great pleasure for the bank to be able to support grass roots football and clubs such as Wesburn who work so hard for the community.
Registration Day
The club is aiming to field seven teams – Under 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 – and will have a good idea after Sunday how that plan is shaping up.
A registration day will be held on Sunday 8 February at the Wesburn Oval from 10am to 2pm.
Boys or girls interested in playing can register on the day and for parents it’s an opportunity to get to know the coaches and meet committee members.
There will be a sausage sizzle, a hand-ball competition and a jumping castle.
