AN EXHIBITION of detailed horse paintings will open on the weekend at Healesville’s Art Framed Gallery, with detailed works to hang on the walls until the end of the month.
The Horse Collective will see works by Amanda Lithgow, Di King, Julie Ricketts and Lynette Orzlowski adorning the walls of the Art Framed Gallery at Level 2, 252 A Maroondah Highway from Saturday 12 November.
About 30 works, each depicting horses in different mediums and paints, will be exhibited on the gallery walls until 27 November, with the opening event to be kicked off at 2pm on the Saturday.
Ms Orzlowski said the idea for an exhibition came up between the four artists in years past, before being organised earlier in the year.
“At the start of this year, Di and Julie rocked up and started talking about it again, and we said ‘Let’s see what we’ve got available’,” she said.
The works vary from close-ups to scenic paintings and racing scenes, with mediums such as pastel, acrylic, charcoal and airbrushing.
Ms Orzlowski said she hoped that horse and art lovers of all kinds would come along to the exhibition, which will be open each day from 10am to 4pm.
She said she had been painting and drawing for her whole life, which was a common theme among the exhibiting artists.
“I’ve been doing it since I can remember,” she said.
“The love of horses came back from my childhood – I had horses when I was younger, then my daughter got back into horses, so I was going out to her shows and getting into what she was doing, taking photos … and creating artworks from there.
“It was like a little snowball effect – I still have that love of horses, so I started getting back into it.”
