THE Lilydale Spring Show attracted people from far and wide last weekend, and was again popular with locals.
Despite the rain on Saturday morning, the show drew a crowd of more than 20,000 people over two days.
Staged at the Lilydale Recreation Reserve on Saturday, 19 and Sunday, 20 November, the show featured a range of live entertainment and performances, amusements and rides, community presentations, displays, demonstrations and competitions.
Show secretary Kathie Mason said some of the highlights of the event included the fireworks display and dog high jump competition on Saturday evening.
“The dog jumping competition was a real crowd pleaser and people stayed for the fireworks display at 9pm,” Ms Mason said.
“It was a wonderful, family friendly environment and the main arena was packed with children who loved every second of the fireworks display.”
Other highlights of the show included the arts and craft competitions, which attracted a record number of entries, the host of community performances on the Melba Park stage, and the wood chopping competitions.
“The Lilydale Show is a traditional country show and people have developed strong relationships with it over the years,” Ms Mason said.
“It is a chance for the community to come together and celebrate.”
Ms Mason said the show would not have been a success this year without the hard work and commitment of the hundreds of volunteers who helped to organise and run it.
