HEALESVILLE residents have been reassured that the substance that turned Grace Burn waterway white last Tuesday (9 December) is not toxic.
Many worried residents contacted Mountain Views Mail and Yarra Ranges Shire, concerned about the colour of the river and the safety of wildlife.
The shire was quick to respond sending out an environmental health officer to determine the substance draining out of a storm water drain, and a compliance health officer to discover the source.
Yarra Ranges Manager of Community Relations James Martin has advised the Mail that the substance was not a threat, however the council was pleased residents notified authorities.
“We much prefer to go out on a wild goose chase than not go out and (later find) there’s a serious matter at hand,” he said.
Residents are asked to contact the shire’s customer service line on 1300 368 333 with environmental concerns.
