Kids’ flying visits

ADANAC camp in Yarra Junction is giving Yarra Valley kids the opportunity to swap computers for camp during the summer holidays.
Camp manager Marcel Edmonds began the scheme after he realised there was a limited amount of outdoor entertainment for young people in the Yarra Valley.
He said he often found children playing on the camp’s trampolines during school holidays.
Then a cancelled booking gave Marcel and his wife Betsy the chance to allocate a week in January just for kids in the community.
Turbo Community Kids Camp aims to not only provide entertainment and a mini holiday for kids but also to help their parents, he said.
“It’s a relief for working parents but it’s also really for the kids,” Mr Edmonds said.
“We know that this is where kids want to be so we thought why not make a camp for them?”
Nestled along Hoddles Street, the five-hectare camp has a 130 metre flying fox, lake, canoeing, a 110-metre water slide, indoor basketball court and more to keep kids busy.
Marcel and Betsy have been working in the camping industry for more than 14 years and endorse camps for the personal, social and physical development they can provide for a child.
“Camp is a great opportunity for kids to be in a healthy environment. They can explore friendships, play great games and initiate ways to express themselves in a healthy way,” he said.
ADANAC’s Turbo camp will run from 12 to 16 January catering for two age categories, an eight to 12-year-old group and 12 to 15-year-old group.
Bookings will be taken up to the day before camp if places are available. Phone 5967 1594.
