THE Environment Conservation Centre at the Warburton Water Wheel is up and running.
The Natural Resources Conservation League (NRCL) opened its doors to the public on Sunday, 22 November.
An independent, non-profit environmental education organisation, the league had its beginnings in 1944 as ‘Save the Forests Campaign’.
For more than 60 years it has been a leader in the broad field of conservation and the move to a new home-base sets it up to continue its work in providing a valuable education and tourism resource for the area.
NRCL programs cater for schools from primary through to tertiary level with both school-based workshops and programs which utilise many of the Warburton district’s unique locations.
Through the Environment Conservation Centre NRCL is also able to offer a great environment experience to individuals and families.
People of all ages can learn about Australian animals and birds as they stroll through the day forest and the night forest, discover the history of the area in the history museum or engage in hands-on water and other activities for the kids.
The tag-a-long tour provides an indoor/outdoor experience with a guided tour of the museum followed by a tour of the magnificent Rainforest Gallery at Cement Creek.
