Woori Yallock grass fires
POLICE are asking residents to be wary of firebugs, after a number of small grass fires were lit in Woori Yallock over the Easter weekend.
Belgrave Police Sergeant, Carolyn Sunderland, told the Mail that at 5.30pm on Saturday, 26 March, witnesses noticed seven small grassfires in scrubland near a creek in Woori Yallock.
Sgt Sunderland said the fires were between one and three metres in diameter, and all within the space of about 200 metres.
She said the fires had burned “for several hours”, but had not spread due to cool winds.
The fires were extinguished, and anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or to submit a confidential crime report to www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
