HEAVY impound fees are the least of two drivers’ worries, after they were arrested by police in Coldstream over the long weekend.

The first, a 22-year-old Coldstream man, was seen by Yarra Ranges Highway Patrol officers driving through Coldstream on Thursday 21 January.

Highway Patrol Leading Senior Constable Graeme Rust said the car appeared to be driven by a drug-affected driver, and that when police tried to pull him over, the driver took off.

“He sped off, he’s gone around the corner, police have seen him come to a stop, get out of the car and run,” Leading Sen Const Rust said.

“The police have run after him and chased him down.”

The man’s vehicle was impounded, and he faces charges of evading police, refusing a preliminary oral fluid test, driving while suspended and speeding.

He will face Ringwood Magistrates’ Court at a later time.

A Bayswater woman was arrested on Monday 25 January after police were called about the driver of a Subaru station wagon, travelling east and swerving over the Maroondah Highway at 6.30pm.

When police breath tested the driver, she tested positive and was arrested for being drunk in a public place – she later recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.256, more than five times the legal limit.

The 29-year-old had her car impounded for 30 days, and will pay $1000 in towing and impound fees, had her licence suspended for 12 months, and she will be charged on summons with drink-driving, being drunk in a public place and resisting arrest.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the driver may lose her licence for a longer period of time, following a court date.
