ADAM Cole has some serious music credentials.
For someone with a passion for music and instruments, the mix of touring with bands and working in the guitar manufacturing and repair industry, is not only the ideal way to earn a living but also has provided the groundwork for an exciting new career move.
With partner Tania Rolando, Adam last week opened Valley Music in Lilydale.
Valley Music specialises in the repair of acoustic, electric and bass guitars and has a retail section dedicated to guitars, including strings and accessories, and drum kits.
After working with two of the country’s most renown guitar manufacturers for many years, Adam has spent the last few years repairing instruments and touring with bands, including Grinspoon and You Am I.
“It’s a baptism of fire out on the road,” Adam confides.
“Guitarists are quite demanding so their guitars have to be totally correct when they go on stage to make their rock show happen.”
Adam’s fiery baptism is good news for Valley Music customers.
The expectations of the country’s top guitarists have set the benchmark for the new repair and maintenance business as well as for the quality of the guitars they sell.
Seasonal changes can effect the way a guitar plays and Adam suggests a regular check-up in summer and winter.
As an opening offer, Adam is inviting school students to take their guitars in for a free service report and adjustments to make sure it is working properly.
Adam and Tania are also very pleased to be the local supplier for Gas Custom Drums – made in Lilydale.
The drums are distinctive, made from a material called shinkolite, a clear acrylic which Adam says accounts for the consistent sound.
That quality has hit a chord with bands including Goyte, Manny from the Galvatrons and Josh Homme from Eagles of Death Metal who took it back to America and has used it on his new recording.
Guitar and drum lessons are also available through Valley Music.
With a wealth of experience in the industry, and a genuine love of his music craft, Adam is always happy to share his knowledge and passion with aspiring young musicians … of any age!
Valley Music is at 12 William Street East in Lilydale. Phone 9735 4025.
