MOVE over Jennifer Hawkins – Jessie Hultgren is hot on your heels.
The professional model from Chum Creek is a finalist at Miss World Victoria, a competition that focuses on promoting healthy body images and a positive attitude for women around the world.
Ms Hultgren said she entered the pageant because of its “beauty with a purpose” mantra.
“Its all about raising money for charities and promoting healthy body images and letting young people know that it’s important to be yourself,” Ms Hultgren said.
She said her family, her boyfriend and friends were extremely supportive of her being part of the competition.
“They have been great,” Ms Hultgren said.
When asked what she would say to people who looked down on pageants such as Miss World as a beauty competition, Miss Hultgren said she was disappointed.
“I’m just a normal girl, who enjoys doing normal things. This pageant and others like it have a really important charity role, which is why I entered,” Ms Hultgren said.
As part of the final, on 2 November, Ms Hultgren and 28 other finalists will parade in swimwear and evening wear as well as perform something.
“It’s not like I can take my horse up on the stage,” Ms Hultgren said, “so my boyfriend is going to write up a funny news bulletin and I’m going to read it, like Carrie from Rove.”
She said that promoting the “be yourself issue” was close to her heart.
“Growing up in the country you see that a lot of kids have not a lot to do, and they turn to drinking or drugs because everyone else is doing it,” Ms Hultgren said.
“I have never done anything because of peer pressure in my life, and it’s important for others to realise that they have to make their own choices.”
