Logging issue into focus

By Melissa Meehan
LOGGING in water catchments is a contentious issue throughout the Yarra Ranges.
Formerly the Central Highlands Alliance, My Environment Warburton is holding a fundraiser on Saturday 18 October to discuss the value of forests in the Upper Yarra between 1.30pm and 4.30pm.
My Environment Warburton spokesperson Keith Sarah said that the fundraiser would help to continue the campaign against logging in water catchments.
“We have some overwhelming support in the Yarra Ranges, from the Shire of Yarra Ranges, and our local MP Tammy Lobato,” Mr Sarah said.
“But it is not just about fundraising, but bringing the issue into the public domain.
“A lot of people are not fully aware of it,” Mr Sarah said.
The fundraiser, to be held at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre, will include a silent auction, guest speakers, information booths, children’s activities.
“Everyone is welcome,” Mr Sarah said.
“I even had a logging contractor ask if he could attend, of course everyone is invited – we are just trying to educate the general public.”
