STEPPING onto the court in the WNBL is a dream come true for award winning point guard, Sarah Parsons.
The former Kilsyth Cobras’ star has been working towards this moment since she was just six.
Now after years of hard work on and off the court, Parsons can realise her dream.
This comes as the tenacious 172cm guard-forward recently signed with the Bulleen Boomers.
Signing with the Boomers tops off a great year for Parsons, who not only led her team, the SEABL Lady Cobras, to a premiership flag but also took out the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year award.
She was also awarded the Golden Hands after finishing second in assists and steals with an average of 4 per game.
But Parsons has not been without her problems off the court.
Her WNBL dreams were shot last year when after signing with Perth Lynx, Parsons contract was revoked following the sacking of coach Paul O’Brien during the pre-season.
This left Parsons out in the cold and without a WNBL roster spot for 2007-08.
In the same spirit and intensity that she plays, Parsons put the disappointment behind her and changed her focus onto the Kilsyth Lady Cobras 2008 SEABL campaign.
Playing WBNL has been Parsons dream for years but she knew it would take a lot of hard work to get there.
She first stepped onto the court at the tender age of six and has played with Kilsyth for the past 15 years.
Parsons said playing SEABL was something she always aspired to and once that was achieved she began to shoot for the stars – the WNBL.
She will join fellow Lady Cobras’ teammate Desiree Glaubitz, on court at the Boomers.
Parsons is excited about that the opportunity of joining the Boomers but knows the hard work starts immediately.
“Last year’s situation was disappointing but made me work harder on my game,” she said.
“The Lady Cobras’ program and success in the SEABL has helped me to elevate my game and prepare me for one of the world’s top Leagues, the WNBL.”
