Intruder alert

By Kath Gannaway
POLICE have described an incident, in which a Badger Creek woman awoke to find a man standing by her bed, as very disturbing.
The woman’s small child was with her in the house in Bluegum Drive at the time.
The incident happened at about 4am on Sunday 28 September.
Lilydale Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) is treating the incident as an aggravated burglary and are seeking help from anyone who has information, which could identify the intruder.
Investigating officer Detective Robyn Waite said the incident was disturbing and distressing for the woman and added police are taking the matter very seriously.
She confirmed the woman had returned home from a family visit at about 12.30am with her youngster and went to bed.
Det Waite said the woman awoke to see a man she described as tall and slim and wearing a black beanie and a black T-shirt standing beside the bed.
When challenged the man ran from the room, escaping out the back door and over the back fence.
The woman had locked the back door before she went out and there were indications it had been forced to gain entry.
Nothing was stolen from the house.
Det Waite said homeowners should check to ensure that their homes are secure and be aware of their surroundings.
She confirmed that Lilydale and local police would be undertaking additional patrols in the Badger Creek area.
“We are taking this very seriously and are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen a person fitting the description around the area at the time, or who may have information they believe could provide a lead in this case,” Det Waite said.
Anyone with information can phone Lilydale CIB on 9735 1684 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Det Waite said if people have any concerns in relation to their safety they should immediately phone “000”.
