COLDSTREAM shooter Craig Henwood is home, nursing what he describes as a Beijing hangover after the 2008 Olympic Games.
He visited Coldstream Primary School last week to thank students for their support over his Olympic campaign.
Craig placed 31st in the men’s trap in his first shot at Olympic competition.
The shooting was one of the first events held after the spectacular opening ceremony with Craig and his team-mate, two-time Olympic gold winner Michael Diamond competing on the weekend.
Henwood scored 109, far from his personal best, while Diamond lost out after a shoot-out with bronze-medallist Alexey Alipov from Russia, after the qualifying rounds.
“I’m really sad it’s over, but glad to be home,” Craig said.
“I’ve got to start training again soon, I’m already looking forward to London in 2012, and the Commonwealth Games in India in 2010.”
Victorians will get the chance to welcome home the superstars of Australia’s Olympic team on Wednesday 17 September at Federation Square in Melbourne’s CBD.
Minister for Sport and Recreation James Merlino said Victoria’s performance at the Beijing Olympics had been inspiring. “Victoria’s contingent of athletes account for around one-third of Australia’s Beijing Olympics medals won to date and this is a terrific reflection of the hard work and training our athletes have undertaken at the Victorian Institute of Sport,” Mr Merlino said.
