RESIDENTS in Healesville and Monbulk now have access to widescreen television broadcasts.
The shire is changing its TV retransmitters to the widescreen 16×9 format.
It has operated TV retransmitters, or self help transmitter sites, at Mt St Leonard and Monbulk since 2003 to overcome TV black spot problems. The previous 4×3 or square format resulted in distortion of widescreen images.
The shire is also lobbying the Federal Government for funding to convert both self help transmitter sites to broadcast digital television, Ryrie Ward councillor Jeanette McRae said.
