Men’s shed
WARBURTON Men’s Shed is looking for new members. Men over 65 are invited to drop in around lunch time on Wednesday 6 May to join Jack, Ray, Ernie and Gary (above) for a snag and a chat. The shed is at 21a Woods Point Road. Visitors are invited to call in or phone 5962 1033 for further information. Some eligibility conditions apply.
Tea fundraiser
Healesville’s Lions Den Op Shop is currently selling hand-made tea-cosies, recycled plates, teapots and everything needed for a morning tea in the lead-up to Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. The shop will have an all-day tea event on Thursday 21 May with scones, muffins and, of course, tea, to raise funds for the Cancer Council. KOHA for mum
KOHA Community Cafe in Yarra Junction is inviting people to take their mum along to the KOHA on Thursday 7 May to enjoy a delicious free meal to celebrate mum and show appreciation of all that mothers do. KOHA runs Thursday nights at the Yarraburn Centre offering healthy, low-cost vegetarian meals from 6pm.
Aboriginal remembrance
HEALESVILLE Rotary is running a bus to the 10th Victorian Aboriginal Remembrance Service in Melbourne on Sunday 31 May. Rotary and McKenzies Buses are providing free transport for local Aboriginal people to assist them to attend the service. To book a seat phone Don on 5962 6550.
Woori open day
WOORI Community House is holding its Woori Open Day and market on Saturday 9 May from 10am to 2pm with music by Engine Room, the Mad Max Interceptor, face painting, jumping castle, magic show, circus activities and Woody’s World. Stalls available, phone 5964 6857.
Meet the author
BEST-SELLING author Karen Viggers will speak at Yarra Junction Library about how life adventures and a love of Australia have shaped her writing. She is a wildlife veterinarian who has worked at Healesville Sanctuary and in Antarctica. Her books include The Lightkeeper’s Wife, “The Grass Castle and The Stranding and she is working on her 4th book. Phone 9800 6462.
Cancer fundraiser
THE Steels Creek Stitchers annual Cancer Council fundraiser, the Biggest/Community Afternoon Tea, will be on Tuesday 19 May at the Steels Creek Community Centre from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Entry of $7.50 includes a delicious homemade afternoon tea. There will also be a select-your-own-prize raffle and some small items for sale. Any help with this event would be appreciated.
