Woman, 79, trapped in crash

By JESSE GRAHAM

A BUXTON woman has been taken away by ambulance after crashing down an embankment on the Black Spur this evening.
The 79-year-old woman was driving towards Narbethong on the section of the Maroondah Highway at 4.10pm when she lost control of her car. The car then went down an embankment and hit a tree, trapping the driver in the car.
SES, CFA, police and ambulance crews all attended the crash, and the driver was cut out of her car about 40 minutes after the crash.
Healesville police Leading Senior Constable Chris Grasby said the driver did not have serious injuries from the crash, but was taken away in an ambulance after being carried up the embankment.
Leading Sen Const Grasby said that police had been called out to a number of crashes on and near the Black Spur where drivers have been heading towards Narbethong, rather than coming down towards Healesville where they would pick up speed.
He said that speed was not a factor in the crash.
The car was removed by emergency services crews and tow trucks and traffic is now open in both directions.
For the full story, see next week’s Mail.

NOTE: This story previously stated the crash victim’s age was 80. This information was provided by an emergency services member, but was incorrect. The correct age of the victim has been updated. The Mail apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused.
