LAKE Mountain Alpine Resort, less than a two-hour drive from most parts of Melbourne, is even closer for Yarra Valley residents.
So why miss out on fun in the snow!
For about the same cost as tickets to the football, families can experience a great, memorable, day out at the snow.
“Make sure you take your camera, the scenery is great and you will get some magical pictures of the kids going down a toboggan slope,” said Lake Mountain spokesman Kevin Beard.
“After the easy but spectacular drive up from Marysville you get to step into a winter wonderland. If you pick a day after fresh snow then the white in the trees and the pristine carpet of snow is magical.”
As Australia’s premier cross-country skiing and snow play resort, Lake Mountain provides a very affordable and fun day out.
“It truly is a winter playground,” Mr Beard said.
“You can head down a toboggan slope, try a snow tube, explore the trails on a set of skis or snow shoes, take a ride on the sled or just play in the snow … everyone must make a snow man and throw some snowballs.”
Mr Baird has this advise for would-be skiers.
“Even if you’ve never skied before, don’t worry! Lake Mountain’s world renowned ski school will get you into action in no time.”
Lake Mountain has a new toboggan slope this season and a huge new snow play area, so there is something for everyone.
The visitor centre has a licensed bistro and takeaway, retail shop, day shelter, the ski school and a full range of snow clothing, toboggans, tubes and skis for hire.
After a day exploring the trails or chasing the kids up and down the toboggan slopes there is plenty of hot food and drinks on hand to warm and re-energise.
For those who want to make the most of the journey take time to explore Marysville or the delights of the Yarra Valley on the way home.
For those who find driving in the snow a little daunting Country Touch in Marysville runs a bus service from the township to Lake Mount Mountain and from Healesville if there is sufficient demand.
There is so much snow, and so much more at Marysville.
