THE Friends of Margaret Lewis Reserve will unveil a commemorative plaque at the reserve next month.
In what the group’s secretary Morris Maxwell described as a “landmark event” for Coldstream, the group is inviting members of the community to join its members on Saturday 9 August as they recognise the contribution of the late Margaret Lewis.
The reserve, 15 hectares of land adjacent to the primary school, was donated by Ms Lewis, a local pony breeder, to be used for passive recreation.
Over the years the area has been planted out to create a bushland which is a popular walking area for local residents.
Since the friends group was formed in 2002 the Shire of Yarra Ranges has put in place a gravel path and the group has created a network of sawdust tracks through the bush.
The group has planned a morning tea at 10am to welcome invited guests and community members to be followed by the unveiling at 11am.
To assist with catering register interest to 9739 1809 or 0418 389 900.
