HEALESVILLE Memorial Hall is set to become the concert hub of the Yarra Valley.
A series of concerts on the third Saturday of each month from July through to November will provide Healesville and district residents in particular with the opportunity to show their support for live entertainment in the town.
The concerts are part of the Shire of Yarra Ranges Cultural Services Department’s and Ryrie Ward Councillor Jeanette McRae’s push to inject some life into the Memorial Hall.
The first concert by Tongue n Groove is on Saturday 19 July at 8pm.
With a world groove fusion of didgeridoo, trumpet, percussion, guitar, bass and electronica, Tongue n Groove create music to relax to, music to dance to, with a focus that strays beyond the boundaries of any one genre.
Their influences range from European electronica to traditional Eastern sounds, all inspired by the open space, the traditional people and very urban society that is Australia.
It is music of the new world, with roots in the oldest of places and traditions and a lively start to the program.
Archie Roach and Shane Howard will take to the stage in August.
Archie Roach is a singer and songwriter of remarkable strengths and insights.
A story teller in the tradition of his ancestors, Archie relays and retells intimate real life stories as well as traditional stories of the Dreaming.
Having survived a personal history that would have left most artists scarred and defeated, Archie Roach has emerged as an extraordinarily gifted Australian artist with a truly visionary talent.
On September 20 San Lazaro, a 10 piece Latin Mestizo outfit arrives in Healesville.

Easily the tightest Latin outfit to come from Australia so far, their members herald from Chilean, Spanish, Indian, Mauritian, Iranian, Irish, Greek and Australian backgrounds and bring a refreshing tough, hip-hop, rock and reggae infused edge to the traditional Latin sound.
Afro Mandinko performs in October fusing the traditions of West Africa with the contemporary sounds of Western styles. Afro Mandinko create a vibrant blend of irresistible dance music.
The series finishes in November with the act yet to be confirmed.
