THE Upper Yarra Arts Centre presents its latest exhibition, Three Ladies with a Brush, Three Schools of Thought, or A Brush with Paint … whatever name Upper Yarra Arts Centre’s latest exhibition goes by, it is sure to provoke interest.
The three artists – ladies with brushes – are Heather McPherson, Elisabeth O’Shea and Heidi Sharam.
All are local to the Shire of Yarra Ranges, and together they present a diverse selection of styles and mediums.
Their exhibition was officially opened at Warburton on Saturday by another local artist and long-time friend of Elisabeth’s, Tony Peden.
Heather McPherson says she is revisiting a passion in painting.
“I fell in love with art and literature back in the ‘60s during my high school years. However, 24 years working for the Commonwealth Bank curtailed that interest somewhat until I took the “golden handshake” in 1992.
Now, I’m revisiting my passion
“Colour, line, shape and texture fascinate me as does perspective.”
Ms McPherson has had lessons over the past 18 months and discovered some exciting mediums.
“I plan on doing a lot more creative work in the future and tackle some new mediums,” she said.
Heidi Sharam began her art journey by doing folk art in 2001 but says she quickly became bored with it.
“Watercolor caught my eye and I decided to give it a go,” she said.
“I found it to be incredibly easy and just seemed to have a knack for it. I enjoy doing the detail of flowers and getting lost in my art work.
“Painting is a release for me and I found it to be very beneficial in my healing from post natal depression. I now run an art group, that also is aimed to give people an opportunity for release and a chance to mix with like-minded people at Burrinja Art Gallery in Upwey,” she said.
For Elisabeth O’Shea painting has been part of her existence for many, many years. She has studied her craft under various tutors and has been involved in group exhibitions at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre in previous years.
She paints from real life memories and scenes.
This brush with three captivating artists is on show at the Upper Yarra Arts Centre until Thursday 17 July.
