YOUNG people can keep the winter blues away these school holidays by taking advantage of the Youth Services Winter Chills ‘08 school holiday program.
Winter Chills runs from June 27 to July 11 and is open to anyone aged 12-25 who lives, works or studies within the shire.
Youth Services manager Martin Fiddler said the school holiday program was the perfect way for young people to stay entertained and have fun over the school holidays.
“Often activities for young people are limited over the winter school holidays because of poor weather, but this action packed program from Youth Services ensures there is something to interest everyone,” Mr Fiddler said.
“To kick Winter Chills off there will be a FReeZA gig held at Mooroolbark Community Centre on Friday 27 June with seven bands playing over two stages. Doors open at 6.30pm and entry is $12 or $10 with a pass.”
Other activities on offer include ice skating at Docklands, a visit to AFL World including a tour of the MCG, indoor rock climbing, SPLASHout at Melbourne’s Sports and Aquatic Centre plus Xbox battles and Friday Nite Games at Healesville on 19 July.
“There are also a number of workshops throughout the program ranging from makeup and badminton to chocolate making and circus skills to Krumping – the latest style of hip hop dancing to hit our shores,” Mr Fiddler said.
He said the shire’s youth strategy would also be launched during the Winter Chills program.
“Launch Urself will be held at the Lilydale skate bowl on Wednesday 9 July and will be a great free day out featuring BMX demonstrations, live bands, rock climbing walls, roving circus performers and much more,” Mr Fiddler said.
All events are fully supervised and strictly drug, smoke and alcohol free.
Events will run at different locations through out the shire and transport will be available to some activities.
