YARRA Ranges ratepayers will have an opportunity to make submissions on a revised Road Management Plan presented to council on 14 October.
Yarra Ranges Council endorsed the Draft Road Management Plan 2014 and directed that a copy of the plan be made available to the public at Community Links and on the council website.
Some of the key issues identified as part of the review were updating information based on current policies, revision of the current inspection system and addition of appropriate information on defects, intervention levels, and associated response times with a view to enabling greater transparency in reporting to the community.
In moving the motion, Cr Jason Callanan said the review highlighted areas for refinement to bring the plan up to date with current policies and procedures.
“It’s tweaking to ensure we are current,” he said.
Mayor Fiona McAllister however said much of the feedback in submissions that informed the plan were about transparency.
She said the message from the community was around the performance standards required of contractors and how they measured up.
“This is something as a council we should be more focused on and talking about commercial in confidence, so we don’t go down that path, I don’t think is an excuse in itself,” she said.
“I think we do need to be more transparent and that we should find ways to report more on these critical areas,” she said.
The submission period is 28 days from the date the notice is published in the Government Gazette.
A further report is set to go to council for consideration.
