Water grant for Yarra Glen club

YARRA Glen football and cricket clubs will benefit from a State Government grant for water storage at the Yarra Glen Recreation Reserve.
Member for Seymour Ben Hardman said the Shire of Yarra Ranges would receive $18,000 to install water storage tanks and install irrigation to allow watering to be carried out effectively.
The funding is part of the Brumby Government’s $12.9 million Drought Relief for Community Sport Program that has already funded more than 70 projects to reduce the impact of drought in 42 Victorian local government areas.
Sport and Recreation Minister James Merlino said managing the effects of the drought was a challenge for all Victorians.
“That’s why the Brumby Government has been working in partnership with local councils and their communities to keep grassroots sport alive and meet the challenges of the drought,” Mr Merlino said.
“These projects will ensure that more sports grounds in the Yarra Ranges are low-maintenance as well as drought-resistant and able to withstand more wear and tear.
“Today’s funding is about giving the local community more opportunities to get involved in sport and recreation – no matter what the weather brings.
“Local sports grounds are vital to the strength and wellbeing of any community and by improving the quality of those facilities we are encouraging greater participation for all Victorians, which is a great result,” he said.
“We are making a difference for the local community, now and into the future.”
