Teens charged with gym theft

THREE Healesville teenagers will face court in relation to a recent theft from Healesville High School. Three others have been cautioned as first-time offenders.
Sergeant Tony Van Gorp of Healesville Police said four males and two females aged between 14 and 16 were arrested last week and interviewed in relation to the burglary and theft of a $1900 crash mat stolen from the school gymnasium over the weekend of 10 and 11 May.
Police recovered the mat at a Healesville address and it was returned to the school.
Three boys, two aged 15 and one 16, will be summonsed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court. The 14-year-old girls and a 15-year-old boy have been issued with formal police cautions.
“It is disappointing that this offence took place late at night on the weekend,” Sgt Van Gorp said.
“Parents need to be more accountable for where their children are late at night.”
