Man injured in bike fall

A WOORI Yallock man sustained severe injuries to his head and upper body last week after falling off his trail bike.
The 33yearold man was riding along Fir Tree Track, located in bush near Gladysdale, when the accident occurred at about 11.45am on Monday, 17 October.
Senior Constable Wayne Reynolds of Yarra Ranges Traffic Management Unit attended the scene, and said the man was lucky to be alive.
“The man was riding along the track when he fell off his motorcycle and hit a fallen log,” he said.
“His injuries were very severe and he was unconscious for a long time. It was fortunate he was riding with a friend who raised the alarm. Had the man been on his own he quite possibly could be dead.”
Melbourne Ambulance Service spokeswoman Liana Cross said the man was airlifted to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition after paramedics from Yarra Junction and Healesville retrieved him from the bush. Sen Const Reynolds said the incident served as a strong reminder to trail bike riders to exercise caution when riding.
“We don’t know what caused the man to fall off his bike,” he said.
“The track is in good condition and he was apparently familiar with the track.
“It just goes to show that even when you know the track you need to be aware of potential obstacles and you need to ride with safety in mind.”
Sen Const Reynolds said the man’s condition had improved by the end of last week and that police would continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
